Guns of Brixton, 1981-2011

Sometimes a song hides a story behind it, a very strong one, that after all these years is still vivid.

"Guns of Brixton", for instance talks about Brixton, which was an area enduring severe social & economic problems (reminds you something familiar?), like high unemployment, low wages, poor housing. All these contributed to a higher than average crime rate.
Paul Simonon, from Clash, grew up there. He wanted to say to the rest of the world about this very rough area. Unconsciously, he pre-dated the race riots that took place in the 1980s. This song talks about the mistreatment of people in Brixton by police, which led to riots, known as "the bloody Saturday".

It would be a blasphemy for the citizens of Brixton, if someone would try to cover this riot anthem, let alone if he comes from another country, from Canada for instance.
Apart this you want to sing it to the the foyer of Brixton Academy!
Obviously you are totally crazy if you think that they will let, let alone, to praise you...



or, you are extremely talented. a pure genius!

 Danny Clinch, has established himself as one of the premiere photographers of the popular music scene. 

 

He is a photographer and film director, who was born in Toms River, New Jersey in 1964. Clinch began his career as an intern for Annie Leibovitz.

Σκηνοθέτης όμως και των Being John Malkovich (1999), Adaptation. (2002), Where the Wild Things Are (2009) καθώς και του φιλμ μικρού μήκους I'm here (2010), το οποίο προβλήθηκε αρχικά στο Sundance Film Festival και κατόπιν στην Berlinale (OST από Sam Spiegel και Aska Matsmiya).

Καταλληλότερη επιλογή οι Arcade Fire δεν θα μπορούσαν να είχαν κάνει για να αναδείξει αυτό ακριβώς που υποδεικνύει ο τίτλος του τραγουδιού και ολόκληρου του άλμπουμ: τη ζωή στα προάστια, με ό,τι αυτή συνεπάγεται. Δηλαδή:
- Αρχετυπικό όνειρο ζωής για τους πολλούς, οι οποίοι το κυνηγούν ανηλεώς.
- Βαρετή καθημερινότητα για αυτούς που το βιώνουν. Πρόσεξε τι ονειρεύεσαι γιατί μπορεί να πραγματοποιηθεί!
- Επίφαση ευδαιμονίας πίσω από τους φράχτες. Οι ήχοι από το soundtrack του Blue Velvet ήδη αντηχούν και ο D.Lynch μειδιά.
- Κλειστές φρεσκοβαμμένες πόρτες, που κρατάνε καλά κλειδωμένους τους σκελετούς που κρύβουν οι οικογένειες σε κάθε ντουλάπα.
- Επαναστατικότητα και επιθετικότητα άνευ αιτίας, άνευ εξειδικευμένου εχθρού για κάθε έφηβο.
- Μεγέθυνση κάθε προβλήματος της καθημερινότητας, λόγω του περιορισμένου χώρου μιας κλειστής κοινωνίας, με επακόλουθη συμπεριφορά τάσεις εκδικητικότητας, σε αυξημένη ένταση.




Περισσότερο ένα αυθύπαρκτο φιλμ μικρού μήκους, παρά ένα συνοδευτικό video clip ενός τραγουδιού...
