Gnossienne No1-Erik Satie
Leading and quite controversial figure of the Parisian avant-garde, Erik Satie was the precursor to later artistic and musical movements such as minimalism, instrumental and even ambient music. The 'Trois Gnossiennes' are gentle, yet eccentric piano pieces, which, when composed around 1890, defied the classical tradition. Satie himself used the term 'furniture music' to imply that his pieces could be used as mood-setting background listening.
